Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh. Anybody who says they don't like this song is lying. C'mon now, don't be ashamed, lady in red is the stuff and you know it... it is deliciously cheesy romantic epic adult contemporary 80's music at it's finest. Just can't deny it. i'm completely shameless about this song, I crank it up with the windows down while driving off into the sunset...
Okay, so I had a stroke of genius recently while listening to this song, I truly believe that Kings of Leon should cover Lady in Red, it'd be super hip. I know you aren't taking me seriously right now, but just hear me out for a second, At least half of their songs talk about dancing (ie: revelry, manhattan, back down south etc.), his voice would slay it, and they could really vibe out on the guitar and create a killer bass line and groove... slam dunk, I'm telling you, I'm one hundred billion percent positive that it would be smokin'... I'm just gonna call 'em up after I post this blog and tell them to record it, pronto.
oh and finding good vids on youtube is tricky. so ridiculous... There is some super corny stuff out there... it can really ruin the song. Pretty much this was the best one I could find:
ps- maybe you really don't like lady in red, and in that case i'd like to apologize for calling you a liar
How about you?
Songs that maybe controversial(give a guilty pleasure)but were hits anyway and I like them:
ReplyDeleteBarbie Girl(among their other songs) by Aqua - They weren’t big in the US but were big in Europe.
“Seduce Me Tonight” by CYCLE V from the movie Flashdance (Excellent to dance too)
“I Touch Myself” – Divinyls (She has a fantastic voice)
"Because I Got High" by Afroman. It was playing on loop in our grad limo (I have no idea why the driver only had that song and Justin Timberlake's Sexyback album on the stereo) so now I will forever associate it with our prom, haha.
ReplyDeleteBut I really truly like Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". I can only hope to achieve what he's done with that song. It's iconic and sticks in your head forever!
So I looked at Wikipedia; A guilty pleasure is something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. The "guilt" involved is sometimes simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes. Fashion, music, and junk food can be examples of guilty pleasures.
ReplyDeleteThought so. In which case I don't see the problem with Lady In Red. On the other hand, I completely get what Elizabeth is saying. Was actually thinking of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" and like "Because I Got High," with no suitable excuse for the latter.
Reaching back let me admit to liking The Archies Sugar Sugar, that I have 30 mp3's of ABBA and enjoy hearing them through, liking stuff from Disney flicks like (IE Annasophia Robb doing Keep Your Mind Open), like most anything Barry Manilow... just getting to the B's in my 26,000+ mp3 collection...
But the real guilt is with music videos... Robert Palmer (you know what I'm talking about) and Bond (really not into classical music, but Haylie Ecker playing violin...) for instance...
Mine guilty pleasure song is Seasons in the Sun. Talk about cheesey! I love it though, We had joy we had fun, we had seasons in the sun...
ReplyDeleteI agree on your take for Kings to cover Lady in Red, it would be interesting at the very least.
I agree with Brent-he took mine-Abba and Barry Manilow sum it up. I like Barry's Copacabana-cheesy but fun.
ReplyDeleteI really like that song! Im not ashamed to admit it!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I forgot to mention yesterday that I am with you, Brooke, I don't care for the Rolling Stones either, never did.
ReplyDeleteCurrently my guilty pleasure is Airplanes by BoB & Haley Williams. It doesn't line up with where I usually trend musically, but I just love it. (Especially the version with Eminem)
ReplyDeletei love lady in red. it reminds my of efy at byu when i was sixteen. how lame is that? but i still love it.
ReplyDeleteand you are absolutely right about kings of leon covering it. it would be stellar.

Shaggy- wasn't me
ReplyDeleteEmbarrassing to like that song; I know
By the way, if you like Lady In Red (love song for a sweetheart in a red dress, something perhaps you'll see a "loved" one wearing around now) I recommend the rather obscure but certainly findable Ballad For Sammy by Exuma found on his Reincarnation album. My only guilt here (none at all) is getting my wife to wear a red dress so i can sing along with this for her.
ReplyDeleteDay 14 Surprise to know I like-Miley Cyrus-"When I Look at You" from the film,The Last Song.
ReplyDeleteDay 15-Most Like Me-Martina McBrides's "In my Daughter's Eyes", beautiful song -I am a mother of two wonderful daughters so I can relate.
Day 16-Used to love but now hate-stumped on this one?
Day 17-On the Radio a lot-Kelly Clarkson's "Since you Been Gone"
Day 18-songs wish were on the radio-this is EASY-"Radio, Radio" by you Brooke, and ALL of your songs, of course. Love them ALL and wish everyone heard them every day on the radio. Also, Jackopierce's songs should be heard, as well.
Day 19-Song From Favorite album-"Phoenix", "Smile", "Out of the Ashes","When We Were One"-hard to choose just one! :)
Day 20-song when you are angry-don't have one for this.
There isn't a spot for songs/soundtracks from films or Broadway tunes-may I suggest we add these? I have some good ones.
Out of Africa, Moulin Rouge, Titanic, to begin with.
